Drift City

Drift City is a browser driving game built around sliding a car sideways through traffic, grabbing cash, and staying ahead of the police. It is free to play, loads without any download, and the top down view keeps every drift and every cop car in sight.

What a Level Asks You to Do

Each run drops you into a city block with a short list of goals pinned to the screen. One level might want a pile of cash picked off the road, another wants bus stops and fences wrecked, and later ones mix both with a few health packs. The goals change, the routine does not. Keep the car moving, line up the next pickup, and watch the health bar. Hitting a wall costs you speed, and trading paint with a police car costs you a lot more.

Traffic is the other constant while you roll through the streets. Regular cars drive around the whole time, and clipping one at a bad angle throws your own ride sideways. That is where drifting stops being a trick and starts being useful. The handling is loose on purpose, so a controlled slide is often the cleanest line through a corner.

How the Chase Escalates

Cause enough chaos and the police show up. Patrol cars spawn behind you and try to ram your bumper, sirens going the whole time, and once you have really annoyed them a helicopter joins the hunt from above. Their hits chew through your health, so trading paint with a cop is a habit worth dropping early. Save the nitro for a straight. A boost bar sits on the HUD, and once it is ready a tap of Shift sends the car shooting forward with a jet of flame out the back, which is usually enough to shake a tail.

When the health bar empties, the car is wrecked and the run stops right there. A revive button appears on the spot, next to the option to head back to the menu, so a bad crash is not always the end of the level.

Keyboard and Touch Controls

The controls card is built into the game and fades away after a few seconds, so here is the short version.

  • A steers left.
  • D steers right.
  • S brakes, and holding it pulls the car into reverse when you need to back out of a corner.
  • Shift fires the nitro boost once the bar is ready.

On a phone or tablet the keyboard drops away and on screen buttons take over, so the same four actions sit under your thumbs.

Cash, Stars and the Garage

Levels pay out in two ways. Money lands in your wallet as you grab pickups, and each level hands out up to three stars depending on how well you hit the goals, with a bonus when all three are filled in. That money counter at the top of the screen is the honest measure of progress, because the garage sells cars with different stats and the price tags climb fast. Clear a level and the next mission is waiting, along with a level select screen for anyone who wants to chase a better star score on an old favorite.
