Monster Truck Offroad is a physics driven driving game where you steer a heavy rig over muddy hills, hit ramps and flatten cars during races. It runs in the browser on desktop, tablet and mobile, so there is nothing to download before you start racing.

I have played a lot of these dirt racers and this one stands out because the weight of the truck actually matters. Climb a steep slope in a heavy rig and you feel the engine straining. Take a light truck up the same hill and it zips past, though it will not crush much underneath it. That trade off runs through every mode and it keeps the garage interesting.

Trucks, Modes, and How Progress Works

You start with one monster truck and unlock more as you keep racing. Each rig has its own speed, suspension and crush power, so the lineup is not just cosmetic. Heavy trucks flatten cars and obstacles with ease but lose time on climbs, while lighter builds are quicker uphill and weaker in a scrum. Picking the right truck for the right event is half the game.

Three modes cover the main ways to play. Circuit Race is a straight sprint through checkpoints against the clock or rivals. Destruction Derby drops you into a mess of cars and breakable objects where every smash adds points. Time Trial strips out the traffic and asks for a clean lap, which is harder than it sounds when the tracks are this bumpy.

What a Run Feels Like

A normal race starts on a muddy track with ramps scattered around the route. You build momentum downhill, release the brake before a ramp and use the air time to line up the landing. Land nose first and the truck flips, which costs you the position and kills any scoring streak you had going. Keep all four tires down and the run keeps flowing.

Cars and destructible props sit along the track for a reason. Rolling over them pays points and, in the derby events, chaining a few smashes in a row multiplies the total. Hidden paths cut chunks off a lap if you spot them, and some of the biggest jumps double as shortcuts. The risk is real though, since a bad landing puts you back on your wheels at a standstill while the clock keeps running.

It is not the deepest racer around, but the driving has enough weight to stay interesting after a few sessions, and the destruction scoring gives you a reason to take silly lines instead of hunting the perfect lap.

Controls on Desktop and Touch

The scheme is small, which suits a game you can pick up in a minute.

Left and Right arrows steer the truck on desktop.
The Up arrow accelerates and the Down arrow brakes or reverses.
Spacebar fires the jump when you are on a ramp, so time it for distance.
On tablet and mobile, tilt the device or use the on screen steering buttons, with separate gas and brake pedals.

That last point matters more than it sounds. Tilt steering takes a lap to get used to, and I still prefer buttons on a phone. Either way the build is HTML5, so the same game runs on desktop and mobile browsers without any setup.
