Clash of Vikings is a free browser strategy battle game where you summon Viking troops and cast spells to knock down enemy towers. You build a small deck, drag cards onto the battlefield and fight a rival kingdom in matches that last about three minutes. It runs instantly in the browser on desktop, tablet or phone with no download.
How a Round Plays Out
Each battle puts you on one side of a compact field with a castle and a couple of towers to look after. A rival viking kingdom sits on the other side, and the game itself runs that side, so there is no waiting for another player to join. The clock is short, about three minutes per round. The side that knocks down the most towers when time runs out takes the win, and a tie pushes both kingdoms into sudden death, where the next tower to fall ends everything. Elixir powers every card and refills on its own, and near the end the refill doubles, so the closing minute gets busy.
Deck Building and Elixir
Your deck holds eight cards, and each one is a troop or a spell with its own elixir cost. The lineup covers slow Viking warlords that soak up damage, ranged units that shoot over the front line, and spells for clearing a group or finishing a weakened tower. Between fights you can inspect every card in the deck menu and swap pieces until the mix suits you. Heavy cards hit hard but leave you waiting on elixir, while cheap ones struggle to break through alone. Pairing a couple of expensive units with cheap support tends to work, though plenty of experiments fail before one sticks.
Playing Clash of Vikings with a Mouse
Controls are simple and everything on desktop happens through the cursor.
- A left click drag pulls a card out of your hand while the mouse holds it.
- Release the left mouse button to drop the unit or spell where you want it on the field.
- Placement matters a lot. A warlord dropped in front of archers gives them cover, and the same warlord dropped alone wastes all that elixir.
- The mouse also handles the deck menu, the card info screens and the button that starts a fight, and on a phone or tablet a finger replaces it.
Why Patience Wins Rounds
The mistake I see most is spending elixir the instant the bar fills. It feels aggressive until a tank walks in with no archers behind it and melts. Holding one card back, letting a warlord absorb the opening hits, does more work for the same elixir. Spells feel tempting early, though saving one for the final minute often decides close rounds, especially once elixir runs at double speed and towers fall quickly. Cheap cards are worth cycling even when they deal almost no damage, since they keep your good cards moving through the deck. Losing a few rounds while learning which unit counters what is normal, and the short matches in Clash of Vikings make it easy to jump back in.
