Earn to Die is a side-scrolling survival driving game where you steer a battered car through a zombie wasteland and flatten anything between you and the evacuation point. Runs pay out cash, the cash buys better parts, and the next attempt goes further. It plays in the browser on desktop, tablet or phone with no download needed.
Hazards Along the Route
The setting is a scorched apocalypse, and the way out is one long strip of highway that never really clears. Zombies shamble along in clumps, wrecked cars and buses sit in the way, and ramps show up right as the speed climbs. Fuel adds a second clock on top of the damage. A dry tank kills the engine, and a bad flip does the same thing, so every run turns into an argument between going fast and staying in one piece. Crowds that stopped the last attempt can turn into a speed bump once the engine is stronger, which is half the fun of coming back.
How a Run Plays Out
Each attempt starts at the same line with the destination marked far down the road. Most runs come down to holding the gas, riding the bumps and keeping the chassis level enough to land clean after every jump. Cash comes from the ground you cover and the mess you leave behind, and it stays with you even when the trip ends in a wreck. That rule is the whole engine of the loop. You fail, you spend, you return with a stronger vehicle and usually push a little further than last time.
Toffee Games built the game, and it has lasted well enough to hold a 9.2 rating from 25 votes. It carries a 09 Jul 2026 date, an HTML5 build and browser support across desktop, tablet and mobile.
Controls for Driving and Tilting
The keyboard carries the full set of inputs:
- W or the Up Arrow accelerates.
- S or the Down Arrow brakes, and it reverses the car out of a bad spot.
- A and D, or the Left Arrow and Right Arrow, tilt the vehicle. This is the part that saves runs, because a car that lands nose first throws away most of its momentum.
- Spacebar fires the mounted weapon after you buy one.
- Ctrl or X triggers the nitro boost.
Touch screens show on-screen buttons for the same actions, so a tablet or a phone works without extra gear. No mouse is needed at all, which makes it an easy one for a couch or a commute.
Spending the Cash in the Garage
Between attempts the game parks in a garage screen where every part carries a price. Engine work adds speed, better wheels find grip on rough ground, a larger fuel tank stretches each run, and armour holds the frame together after a clumsy landing. Weapons and nitro arrive later and change a run more than any engine tune. There is a second reason to save up: the pickup and the truck unlock as the balance grows, and both take hits that would end the starter car right there.
Fuel is the quiet upgrade of the bunch. A bigger tank means more road per attempt, and more road means more money, so it tends to pay for itself before long.
