Little Alchemy

Little Alchemy

A little grid of icons, a blank workspace, and a tiny hint that says combine two things. That is the whole vibe when it loads, simple and a bit smug. You drag or click an element from the side, drop it onto another, or tap if you are on your phone, and then wait for the cute little ding when something new appears.

It feels slow and addictive, like doodling with science. What you basically do is mix basics, discover matches, and slowly grow a bizarre inventory of stuff, from stone to spaceship. Controls are mouse drag and drop, or tap to select, sometimes you click twice to merge. No complex keys, no timers, just you and bad guesses.

My bias: I love that it does not hold your hand, but I also get annoyed by trial and error when I really want to build a city. Casual advice, try grouping air, water, fire, earth first, keep a tiny notebook of combos, and don’t peek at spoilers unless you are stuck. Fans of Doodle God, Doodle Devil, Alchemy Classic or Little Alchemy 2 will feel right at home, though each one nudges the puzzle in its own weird direction.
