Color by Number

You load the page and a grid of tiny numbered squares stares back, the color palette sitting like a lonely toolbox on the side. Some pictures are simple florals, others are tiny animals. It looks harmless, but those little numbers pull you in.

What you do is simple, you click a number in the palette then click any matching numbered square to fill it. Click and drag to paint a bunch at once. There are zoom controls if you want to get into the fiddly bits. Mostly it is filling, watching the image assemble pixel by pixel.

Controls are basic: left click to fill, click and drag to paint multiple cells, number keys 1 to 9 pick the matching color quickly, mouse wheel or pinch to zoom, and Ctrl Z will undo mistakes. If something misclicks just undo and keep going.

It feels oddly calm, like doing busy work that still rewards you visually. I end up playing while waiting for stuff to load or when I need something dumbly soothing. The rhythm of clicking colors into place is relaxing, and sometimes a little addictive.

Start with large areas first, zoom for the tiny bits, and use the number keys to hop colors faster. If you want to finish faster skip tiny details and come back, that helps when you are impatient.
