The Skull Kid — a small dark platformer with weird charm
Feels like sneaking through a rainy comic panel. You play a mischievous, masked kid who pokes at cursed forests, steals glowing trinkets and bangs on weird bosses until they stop moving. The pacing is jumpy, a little twitchy, and at times gorgeous in a grubby way.
What you basically do is explore cramped levels, solve simple environmental puzzles and fight oddball enemies to collect skull shards and unlock new paths. Combat is chunky not precise. Movement matters more than fancy combos.
I like the art and the mood, not wild about some slapdash collision and reusing the same enemy types. Personally I prefer it to overproduced indie fluff but it will frustrate you if you expect polish.
Controls are straightforward: WASD or arrow keys to move, space to jump, mouse or left click for attacks and aiming if you pick up ranged stuff. It feels responsive enough but the hit windows are tight so you learn timing fast.
Tip: hug walls, bait one enemy at a time, conserve health items and revisit unlocked shortcuts. If you liked Hollow Knight, Ori, Shovel Knight, or Cave Story you might get a kick out of it.
