Retro Blaster

Retro Blaster is a free browser space shooter with pixel art and endless arcade combat. You steer a ship that never stops moving, turning to aim, boosting to escape, and firing at waves of enemies while grabbing coins and power-ups. It runs instantly in the browser, and nothing needs a download.

One Ship, No Brakes for Long

Momentum runs everything here. The ship drifts forward on its own, so every turn changes where you travel and where your shots land at the same time. There is no aiming cursor and no sidestep move. Lining up a shot means swinging the nose toward trouble and hoping the swarm does not close in first. Enemies arrive in rising numbers, starting with slow drifters and building to ones that chase the ship around the screen. Ammo drains the whole time you fly, and refills drop from the ships you break apart, so picking the right moment to push into a crowd matters as much as accuracy. Coins pop out of destroyed enemies too, and saved coins unlock stronger ships with their own handling.

Power-Ups That Buy Seconds

Bombs, shields, and weapon pickups appear during a run, and each one buys a little breathing room when the screen gets crowded. A shield eats a hit, a bomb clears the space around the ship, and a weapon upgrade sharpens the fire for a while. Sitting on them for a perfect moment rarely pays. A bomb spent early keeps a run alive longer than one saved forever, at least in my runs. Most deaths come from a panicked turn into a wall of enemies, not from sloppy shooting. Flying calm and tapping the brake beats mashing the boost key, which took me a while to accept.

Retro Blaster Controls for Keyboard, Mouse, and Touch

Keyboard is the natural way to fly, and the inputs are quick to learn:

  • A or Left Arrow turns the ship left
  • D or Right Arrow turns the ship right
  • W or Up Arrow boosts forward
  • S or Down Arrow reverses and slows the drift
  • Shift brakes for tight dodges
  • Spacebar or left click fires the weapon
  • B drops a bomb

Touch screens use the same moves through simple on-screen controls. This is an HTML5 build from 1Games.IO, first released on 18 February 2026, and it plays in the browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Runs Built on Score and Coins

Every flight is a score chase. Stay alive, shoot clean, and the number climbs. Player votes put it around 8.5 from just over a hundred ratings, which feels about right for a game with no story mode and no long tutorial. A run lasts until the ship breaks, and a fresh one starts seconds later. Restarting is painless, so one more attempt never feels like a chore.
