Boys vs Girls

Boys vs Girls is a choose your own story game from MarketJS, and it drops you into a high school where the smallest argument turns into full-blown drama. You read the situation, pick how your side reacts, and watch the fallout land. It runs in the browser, free to play, no download needed.

I went in expecting something silly and short. I got a classroom that treats a missing snack like a national emergency, and honestly I kept clicking just to see how ridiculous the next scene would get.

A School Where Nothing Stays Small

The setting is one very loud high school. Boys and girls argue about who should run the class, who started a rumor, who ate the last snack, and a dozen other things that should never matter. They matter anyway. A throwaway comment becomes a campaign, and a campaign becomes a full cafeteria meltdown. Most of the comedy comes from how seriously every single person takes the whole mess.

MarketJS built it as a plain HTML5 game, so it loads fast and looks like a cartoon episode rather than a glossy console title. That fits. The flat 2D art and the exaggerated faces do most of the joking for you, and the bright blue versus pink split gives the rivalry a look you can read in one second.

Boys vs Girls, Story by Story

There are eight short stories to work through, and each one is built from a handful of decisions. You follow a scene, a few options appear, and you pick the reaction you want. Choices bend the conversations, feed the rivalries, and change how the whole event ends, so two runs through the same story rarely look alike.

It never demands reflexes. Nothing here punishes you for being slow, which is a nice change if you usually play twitchy arcade stuff. The tension is social, not physical. You are mostly guessing which answer will set off the biggest chain reaction and then watching the room explode.

Controls Are About as Simple as They Get

Everything is driven by the mouse or a finger tap. There is no key map to memorize.

  • Left click on a choice to lock it in and push the story forward.
  • Mouse on Play and any menu button to move between scenes and stories.
  • Touch works the same way on a tablet or phone, one tap per choice.

That is the whole control scheme. One click per decision, then the scene animates the aftermath. On desktop the mouse is all you need, because the game ignores the keyboard completely.

Why It Works as a Short Break

A single story takes only a few minutes, so it is easy to squeeze one or two into a coffee break. The trade-off is that the game is very light on challenge. If you want a score, a timer, or a real way to lose, you will not find any of that here. The point is the joke and the reaction, not the difficulty.

I would still run it again to chase the outcomes I skipped. Each choice quietly matters, and the ending pulls the whole scene together in a way that makes the second run worth it.
