Escape School Duel is a cartoon escape game where a student sprints through a locked down school, dodging teachers, traps and the principal to reach the exit. You can play it free in a browser, solo or with a friend, and nothing needs to be downloaded.

I ran into this one on GameDistribution, where it showed up in February 2026. The developer is gameVgames, and the whole thing is an HTML5 build that lives in a browser tab. No installer, no account, no waiting around.

What You Actually Do Between Classes

Each run drops you somewhere inside the school with a single goal, get out. Hallways, classrooms and guarded exits are all patrolled, and the staff do not give up easily. Teachers block routes, the principal turns up in the worst corridor, and traps sit in spots that look safe until they are not. You learn the layout by failing a few times, which is a big part of the fun for me.

The movement is quick and bouncy. You can jump twice in a row, so a mistimed leap is not always fatal, and you can sprint to outrun someone closing in behind you. Solo play turns into a time chase, where you pick a route, shave a second off your best run, then go again. Nothing carries over between attempts except your knowledge of the map and the cosmetics you unlock.

Two Players on One Keyboard

The duel in the name is literal. Two people can share the same keyboard and race for the exit, and that is where the game gets funniest. One player gets the WASD cluster, the other takes the arrow keys, and you both end up crammed onto one desk trying not to bump hands. It is local only, there is no online mode, and that honestly suits it.

Runs also drop tickets and money. Those unlock cosmetics such as outfits, wings, backpacks, glasses and small mascots. They do not change how the game plays, but they make your character stand out next to player two.

Controls for Both Players

Player 1 moves with W, A, S, D, jumps with the Spacebar and presses it twice for a double jump, then holds Left Shift to run.
Player 2 moves with the arrow keys, jumps with L and presses it twice for a double jump, then holds K to run.

That is the entire scheme, no mouse and no menus in the middle of a chase. It also means there is nothing to explain before a round starts, which is handy when you hand the keyboard to someone who has never played.

How It Looks and What It Runs On

Visually it goes for a bright cartoon style, with chunky characters, big expressions and a school that is silly rather than scary. There is no text to read anywhere, so language is never a barrier. The rating sits at 9.6 from a couple of dozen votes, which is high for something this simple, and I get why. It is easy to start and easy to lose twenty minutes to.

Because it is an HTML5 game built for a landscape screen, it runs in desktop, tablet and mobile browsers without an app. Load the page, hit play, and you are already running down a corridor.
