Plants Vs Zombies is a free browser tower defense game where you plant seeds on a lawn and stop waves of zombies from reaching your house. PopCap Games made it, and the browser version runs with no download. You pick a seed packet, plant it on a tile, and hope your sun economy holds.

The Sun Is Your Real Health Bar

Everything here runs on sun. Sunflowers and falling sunlight pay for every seed packet you place, and the opening minutes are mostly about spending that first sun well. Waste it on a second Peashooter when the lane needed a Wall-nut and the next wave will show you exactly why. I still plant too many shooters and not enough economy, and it never ends well.

Your job is simple to say and harder to do. Zombies shuffle in lanes toward the house, and every lane needs enough firepower to kill whatever reaches it. Cheap plants save runs. A lawn with three solid lanes and one bare strip is a loss waiting to happen, so spread the defense wide, watch the seed cooldowns, and keep an instant pick like Cherry Bomb in reserve for the moment two Gargantuars show up at once.

The Lawn Changes as You Progress

Adventure mode walks through 50 levels split across five themed sets. Day stages hand you falling sun, night stages take it away and lean on Sun-shrooms instead, pool stages add water lanes where only Lily Pads let you plant, fog hides half the field, and the roof tilts every row so Flower Pots are required just to place anything. Conveyor levels throw sun management out entirely and feed you a fixed stream of packets, which flips the whole rhythm of a stage. Boss fights wait at the end of the run, including a giant machine driven by Dr. Zomboss.

Plants, Zombies, and the Long List of Both

There are 49 plants to unlock and 26 zombie types to outlast, and the game keeps adding both well past the point where you think you have seen everything. Early stages throw plain zombies and Coneheads at you. Later ones bring Newspaper readers, Screen Door shields, Football players, Pogo sticks, Balloon zombies, Diggers and the hulking Gargantuar. Your side grows the same way, from the Peashooter and Sunflower up through Snow Pea, Chomper, Magnet-shroom, Melon-pult, and instant picks like Cherry Bomb. Pairing a slowing plant with splash damage behind a Tall-nut carries a lot of stages.

Controls That Fit on a Napkin

Left click a seed packet to pick it up from the plant tray or the conveyor belt.
Left click a lawn tile to place the selected plant on it.
Drag the shovel onto a planted unit to remove it and clear the tile.
In Whack a Zombie levels, tap or click each zombie as it pops up.

That is the whole control scheme, and it stays on the mouse or your finger. You never need a keyboard, which is part of why it works so well on a tablet or a phone.
