How a Run in Granny Original Unfolds

Granny Original is a first-person horror escape game where you sneak around a locked house, find keys and tools, and try to get out before the old lady who lives there catches you. It runs in the browser, costs nothing to start, and there is nothing to install. Barabaha built it in Unity, and it came out in January 2023.

You get five tries, and that number matters more than anything else in the game. Granny hears everything. A dropped plate, a slammed door, a careless sprint across a wooden floor, and she is already walking toward the noise. I lost a run once because I knocked over a vase while grabbing a key from a shelf. That kind of mistake stings, but it also makes the next attempt feel different, because now you know where she goes when she hears something.

The front door is held shut by several locks, and clearing all of them is the real puzzle. Keys are scattered around the house, some behind furniture, some inside drawers, some in rooms you would rather not walk into. There are five difficulty levels and a practice mode that lets you wander the house without Granny on your back for a while. Even in practice the house is not completely safe, so keep that in mind.

Staying Quiet Is the Whole Job

Hiding spots are everywhere and you should learn them early. Beds, closets and chests all work, and pressing the right key at the right moment can save a run. The hard part is that Granny does not forget quickly. She will come back to check the room again, and she will hear you the second you crawl out too soon.

Fighting back is possible but limited. You can throw an item at her, maybe a weapon if you find one, and it buys you a few seconds. It never ends the threat, so treat it as an emergency button rather than a plan. The garage is another route out. There is a car in there, and getting it running takes a lot of setup before it becomes useful, but it is a nice option for players who like to prepare instead of rush.

The House, the Traps and the Pets

Traps are set around the house and they will catch you at the worst possible time. Getting stuck in one means holding a key until you are free, and every second you spend trapped is a second Granny spends walking toward you. Pets wander the place as well, and they add another layer of noise and danger to every trip down a hallway.

On the presentation side, this is a Unity game from 2023 and it looks like one. Rough textures, heavy shadows, a house that creaks constantly. The atmosphere does the heavy lifting instead of fancy visuals, and honestly that suits the genre better. It holds a 4.7 rating from more than 31,000 votes, so the formula clearly works for a lot of people. It also runs on PC, Android and iOS, and a September 2026 update kept it working on modern browsers.

Controls for Desktop and Phones

The controls are simple to learn, and the game shows you prompts through small icons. On a computer:

WASD to walk around the house
E to interact with doors, drawers and objects
C to sit down or stand up
R to hide when a hiding spot is nearby
Spacebar to throw whatever you are holding
Hold F to free yourself from a trap

On a phone or tablet a joystick appears on the left of the screen for walking, and dragging on the right side rotates the camera. The hand icon interacts, a sitting figure icon handles sitting and standing, a bed icon with an arrow hides you, and a separate icon throws items.
