FrontWars.io

FrontWars.io is a free real-time strategy game you play in a browser, with no download to sit through. You take a chunk of a world map, attack the regions around it and try to control as much land as possible before human rivals and AI nations do the same to you.

A Real-Time War on a Single Map

Matches are live and crowded. Dozens of players share the same world along with AI countries, and the borders move the entire time. Attacks run on ratios, so you decide how much of your population goes into an assault and then watch the trade in land and lives play out. Push too hard and your own cities sit empty for whoever attacks next.

Diplomacy carries the rest of the match. Alliances let partners pass troops and gold between them, which matters when one giant neighbor starts swallowing everyone nearby. Breaking an alliance marks you as a traitor for a while, and other players react to that mark, sometimes with missiles. Quiet corners of the map can turn into a brawl because one player got greedy, and that is usually where the fun lives.

Cities, Ports and the Nuclear Option

Cities raise your population, and population is the fuel for everything else. Defense Posts make invaders pay more for every region they capture. Ports unlock warships and sea trade, so a coastline spawn can quietly compound if nobody sinks your fleet. The Missile Silo is the part that keeps everyone honest. Atomic warheads, hydrogen bombs and MIRVs launch from it, and one lucky strike can flatten a border you held for a long while. SAM Launchers try to intercept incoming missiles, though I would not bet an empire on the interception odds.

The economy is straightforward. Gold buys troops, troops take land, land pays more gold, and a leaderboard in the corner ranks everyone by land, troops and gold totals. The game is HTML5 and runs in desktop, tablet and mobile browsers. It comes from the developer Phoenix, and a Steam release is on the way.

Keyboard and Mouse Controls

The desktop build leans on both hands, and learning the keys early saves clumsy first matches.

  • WASD moves the camera across the map.
  • Q and E zoom out and in, and C recenters the camera on your nation.
  • Space switches between the terrain view and the country view.
  • Shift plus left click sends an attack at a region.
  • Ctrl or Cmd plus left click opens the build menu.
  • Backslash plus left click opens the emote menu, and Backslash plus R resets the graphics settings.
  • 1 and 2 lower or raise the attack ratio, and Shift plus the mouse wheel fine tunes it step by step.
  • The middle mouse button auto upgrades the nearest building.

Touch controls cover tablet and phone play, which works fine for slow rounds and gets messy once several fronts light up at once.

How a Round Usually Unfolds

The early minutes go to cheap land, grabbed before neighbors wake up. The middle stretch is walls, ports and picking a side. The endgame turns into missile math and everyone watching the leaderboard. Restraint tends to pay better than speed in FrontWars.io, because the player who attacks everything early becomes the favorite target later. Coastal spawns should claim a port before an extra inland city. It keeps more options open when the map starts to close.
