Football Bros Gameplay Basics

Matches are quick and messy in the best way. You control a big headed player on the field, line up for the snap and try to move the ball down the field before the clock runs out. Touchdowns come from running or passing into the end zone, and a well timed kick can add field goal points when a drive stalls. Defense matters just as much, because dropping the ball carrier behind his own goal line flips points your way too.

What keeps me coming back is the tackling. Timing a dive so your defender clips the carrier at the last second feels great, and the stiff arm is just rude enough to be funny. The passing game stays simple on purpose, so one match is enough to learn it and twenty matches is not enough to master it.

A single game rarely drags. The clock pushes both sides to take risks, and that is where the fun lives. You will see wild comebacks and desperate stops, plus plenty of dives that hit nothing but grass.

Modes, Teams and Unlockables

There is more to Football Bros than a quick exhibition. Quick Play drops you into a fast game against a random opponent. Franchise Mode turns that into a climb, as your squad chases a spot in the Super Bro Bowl. If a friend is sitting next to you, the local two player mode puts both of you on one keyboard, and online play lets you host or join a match against someone else.

Team selection adds a small layer of thinking. Each roster carries its own ratings, like quarterback speed and accuracy or a receiver’s hands, so a run heavy pick plays differently from a passing one. Cosmetics are light early on, and more outfits and accessories unlock as you keep playing. Blue Wizard Digital built the game in HTML5, so desktop, tablet and mobile browsers can load it, and it holds a 9.3 rating from 70 votes.

Controls on a Keyboard

Solo play keeps everything close together, so your fingers never wander far from the action.

Arrow keys move your player around the field.
Spacebar throws a pass, dives or stiff arms, depending on the situation.

Two player games split the keyboard down the middle. Each side gets its own movement keys and its own action button.

Player one moves with WASD and acts with G.
Player two moves with the arrow keys and acts with L.

The action button changes with the moment. It throws when you have the ball, dives when you are chasing a carrier and stiff arms when a defender closes in. That sounds confusing, and it is for about two plays, then it clicks.
