Road Rage

Road Rage is a browser racing and combat game where you ride a motorcycle through a crime-ridden city, race rival biker gangs and fight them with bats, blades and guns. It runs free in your browser with no download, and every job pushes you closer to the top of the underworld.

Hammerplay Studios made it, and you can tell the bikes were the priority rather than the streets around them. I spent my first few runs just learning how far the game lets a motorcycle lean before the curb teaches you a lesson. Ashen, the city you are stuck in, is split into seven districts, and it never really calms down. Riders come at you from side streets, and a quiet block can turn into a brawl in seconds.

Bike Combat in a Crowded City

Most missions put you against at least one rival on two wheels, and the fight usually begins before anyone slows down. You swing at close range with whatever your rider is carrying, from a baseball bat to a heavier firearm, and the physics handle the rest. Push someone into a wall at the right angle and they are done. Whiff the swing and you have lost your opening, plus a chunk of health.

I like that patience matters more than mashing the attack key. Rivals love to close in and swing wide, so waiting half a beat and dodging at the last second tends to leave them wide open for a counter. That habit costs a few crashes to learn, but it changes every fight afterward. Races follow the same rules, except the finish line is the goal and the other riders are moving obstacles that hit back.

Missions, Money and Upgrades

The game ships with more than ninety missions, and they are not all the same shape. Some are straight races, some are heists, some are escorts and some simply ask you to survive a street packed with enemies. Every finished job pays, and the money goes toward a faster bike and better weapons. Upgrading the ride is the part I enjoy most, since a stronger engine changes how a mission plays rather than just making numbers climb.

Cause enough trouble in a district and the police show up. Patrol cars start hunting you once you have made a mess, and they are not picky about which gang you ride for. Shaking them off while a target is still on the move is where the game gets tense, so it pays to save some turbo for the escape instead of spending it all on the chase.

Controls

The controls are all keyboard, and the setup is easy to pick up:

Arrow keys steer the bike and control acceleration and braking.
G swings your current weapon at anything within reach.
Spacebar triggers the turbo boost.

Steering and turbo carry most of the learning curve. A short turbo burst before a swing closes the gap faster than a rival expects, and another burst after a bad hit helps you slip away before a second attacker arrives.
