Big Heads, Big Goals

Somebody looked at football and decided the players needed enormous heads and tiny bodies, and honestly they were right. Sports Heads Soccer is 1 on 1 arcade football where your giant head does most of the work. Bounce it, nod it, smash it toward their goal and pray a little. The ball has its own opinions about physics and it shares them constantly.

It looks silly and plays serious. Behind the cartoon heads there is real timing. Jump too early and the ball sails over you. Kick from too far and it dribbles nowhere. The sweet spot is meeting the ball at the top of your jump, and landing that clean header never stops feeling good. I have strong opinions about a browser football game from 2011 and I am not ashamed.

Winning the Duel

Defense first, always. Park yourself between your goal and the ball and make them come to you. Most goals in this game come from scrambles, so the player who stays calm in the box wins more than the one chasing everywhere. When the ball pops up high, back off half a step and meet it coming down instead of jumping under it.

Power ups decide close games. If one drops on your side, take the half second to grab it even mid attack. A frozen opponent is worth more than a rushed shot. And in the last ten seconds with a one goal lead, just boot the ball as far from your goal as physics allows. Beautiful football it is not. Winning football it is.

Head to head fans should try Soccer Physics next, it takes the same chaos and adds more bodies. Basketball Legends 2020 keeps the duel spirit on a different court, and Rooftop Snipers is the same couch rivalry with guns instead of goals.

Own goals will happen and they will be spectacular. The only rule is no sulking, because the kickoff after a howler is the best chance to answer straight back. Some of my favorite matches were the ones that started 0 to 2.

How to Play

Arrows or WASD to move, Space or P to kick. That is the entire manual and you already know it. Player one runs on WASD plus Space, player two on arrows plus P. Jump with up, boot the ball with kick, and try not to head it into your own net in the first ten seconds like everyone does.

Two players share one keyboard, or you take on the computer. Matches run on a clock, most goals when it hits zero wins. Power ups drop mid game and flip everything. Giant head, tiny head, frozen legs, whatever it is, grab it before your opponent does.
