Granny Horror

Granny Horror is a first-person survival adventure game in which you sneak through a locked house and try to escape before five in-game days run out. It runs free in the browser on desktop, tablet and mobile, with no download required, and every noise you make can bring the old lady straight to your room.

How a Run Unfolds

The premise takes one sentence to grasp and a long time to survive. You wake up locked inside a house with a hostile resident and five in-game days on the clock. Every time she catches you, one day disappears and the run restarts with fewer chances left. Reach zero and the attempt is finished.

Getting out means exploring properly. Halls, rooms and staircases all hold something useful, and drawers and cabinets are worth opening even when they look empty at a glance. The exit is never behind one simple door, so the real progress comes from connecting small discoveries to the bigger escape plan.

Noise Is the Whole Game

What separates this one from a standard escape game is the hearing. The old lady picks up sound almost instantly, and a dropped object or a sudden movement is often enough to send her running in your direction. Walking slowly is not optional. Neither is staying calm, since panicking and bolting through doors tends to end the day faster than standing still.

Hiding spots are placed around the map for exactly this reason. Beds, closets and dark corners can keep you safe if you reach them in time and do not move. Choosing the nearest spot is not always the best idea, because she checks the obvious rooms first.

Tools and Multi Step Puzzles

Escape items are scattered across the building, and most of them serve more than one purpose. Keys, pliers, hammers and small tools open doors, pop open containers and disable traps that guard the safer routes. Several of these steps are part of multi step puzzles that stretch over more than one room, so remembering where a certain item was spotted earlier can save a dangerous walk later.

Granny Horror runs in HTML5 on desktop, tablet and mobile browsers, which makes short attempts easy to fit into a break. The game holds an 8.6 rating from 35 votes, and that score fits a title that rewards patience far more than quick reflexes. My own habit is to clear one side of the house before touching the other, and it beats rushing the exit almost every time.
