Chameleon Hideout

Chameleon Hideout is a 3D hide-and-seek game where you play a chameleon that repaints its own body to match the room, then holds still while a hunter searches for it. It is free to play in the browser, no download needed.

What a Round Looks Like

Each round drops you into a colorful room full of walls, furniture and small props. A timer starts, and you get that time to disappear into the scenery. The map itself is the puzzle here. Nobody is shooting at you and nothing chases you down a corridor, you just stare at a chair, a wall panel, a rug, and work out whether a chameleon could pass for part of it.

Once you find a spot, you take your chameleon into the color studio and start painting. The plan is easy to say and fiddly to pull off: look enough like your surroundings that a hunter scanning the room slides right past. A concealment score tracks how well you blend, and it rewards patience over rushing.

The Color Studio Tools

Three tools carry the whole game. The eyedropper samples a color straight off a surface, the brush handles details and edges, and the fill tool covers big areas in one pass.

Painting by eye is the mistake everyone makes. Sample the exact wall or piece of furniture where you plan to hide and let the game hand you the real shade. Edges matter as much as the middle of your body, because unpainted patches and messy borders are what give a chameleon away. Pose counts too. A chameleon standing in the open reads as a chameleon no matter how good the paint job is, so fold your body into the shape of whatever you are copying.

Chameleon Hideout Controls

Keyboard and mouse run everything, and the scheme stays small so you can focus on the hiding.

  • Move: the keyboard walks your chameleon around the map.
  • Aim: the mouse steers your view and points at the surface you want to copy.
  • Select: a mouse click picks up tools and objects in the studio.
  • Jump: the jump key gets you onto crates and higher hiding spots.
  • Paint: the paint key switches on painting mode, then the mouse does the brushing.

How It Feels to Play

DC Studio released it in July 2026, and rounds are slower than most browser games I play. The tension sits in the waiting. You paint, you settle into position, and then something walks past while you hold still, which is either dull or great depending on how the round turns out. When the paint job works, it feels like a magic trick. When it fails, the reason is usually obvious: one leg left the wrong shade, or the hiding spot sat in a corner that looked nothing like the rest of the room.

Give it a few rounds before you judge it. Corners, clutter and dark furniture beat big open walls every single time.
