Sprunki is a free browser music game where you drag characters onto a stage to build a song out of their sound loops. It plays instantly on desktop, tablet and mobile with no download. The HTML5 build comes from developer wolf_hal, who released the open source project on September 26, 2024.
No story, no levels, no way to fail. You get a row of odd little cartoon characters and every one of them hums something: a beat, a bassline, a whistle, a strange vocal noise. Drag a few onto the stage and a track starts playing right away. That is the whole game, and somehow it eats twenty minutes every single time.
The Music Mixing Idea
Every character owns one sound and loops it forever once they land on stage. One does a kick drum, another a soft hum, another a rubbery synth note, another a wobble that sounds like a cartoon ghost. The stage only holds a handful of them, so the real game is picking which voices belong together. Swap a character out mid loop and the song changes while it keeps playing, no restart needed.
Some mixes click in seconds. Others sound like a washing machine full of spoons. Both are fine, and the silly ones are honestly more fun to leave running. Start with the low end and build upward, it is easier to hear what fits once the bass is already there.
Sprunki Gameplay Basics
Fill every slot and a loose pile of noise turns into a full track with a proper groove. Drag a character off the stage and that sound drops out of the mix instantly, which is the fastest way to hear what one voice is doing. There is no score, no timer and no losing. You play until you like the result, then you poke at it some more. A quick session can last two minutes, a curious one can last half an hour.
Sharp Turn Into a Horror Theme
There is a second layer under the friendly one. Drag the black button onto a character and the screen goes dark, the faces twist into something meaner, and the voices pick up a nasty distorted edge. Most players find it by accident, which is the best way. The mixing rules do not change at all, so you can flip modes and keep building the same song. Fair warning, the cute version and the scary version are two different moods of the same toy.
Controls
Everything runs on dragging, no keyboard required:
- Left click a character in the bottom row and drag them onto the stage to add their loop.
- Drag a character off the stage to cut that sound out of the mix.
- Drop a character into a different slot to rearrange the track while it plays.
- Drag the black button onto a character to switch the song into horror mode.
- On a phone or tablet, use one finger for the same drag and drop moves.
