Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror puzzle game where you break into a suspicious neighbor’s house, sneak past the man himself, and dig up whatever he is hiding. It runs free in your browser on desktop, tablet and mobile, with nothing to install. Dynamic Pixels made it, and it first came out back in 2017.
How a Break-In Usually Goes
The house is stuffed with locked doors, jammed windows and furniture you can drag around, so every room turns into a small puzzle. You need a key from the kitchen, a box to reach the attic hatch, a distraction that sends the neighbor walking the other way for ten seconds. Get spotted and he does not just wave at you. He runs, chucks you out onto the lawn, and comes back with a tighter setup than before.
That loop sounds simple and then eats entire evenings. I lost a good hour trying to reach the second floor without touching one noisy object. Some solutions are genuinely clever. Others you only see after a dozen failed attempts. When progress stops, quit pushing at the front of the house and take a slow lap around the yard. The way in is usually a window, a vent or a piece of junk you walked past three times already.
The Neighbor Watches How You Play
What separates this from a pile of other sneaking games is the man himself. He is not a guard walking the same lap forever. The AI pays attention to your habits. Climb through the same window twice and there is a fair chance a trap is waiting there next time. Keep rattling the front door and he starts hovering around it. Dynamic Pixels leaned hard into this, and it gives every attempt a nervous, personal feel that a fixed patrol route never could.
Objects are your toolbox against him. Chairs, brooms, cups, whatever you can lift, all of it flies across a room so he stomps off to investigate the noise. Cheap trick. It works more often than it should, and watching him march away while you slip through the door he left open never gets old.
Controls for Desktop and Touch Screens
On a computer, the game runs on the usual setup:
- W, A, S, D or the arrow keys move you around.
- The mouse turns your view.
- Shift sprints, which gets you there faster and also gets you noticed faster.
- Spacebar jumps, and Ctrl or C crouches so you can creep under windows and around corners.
- E interacts with doors, drawers, switches and anything worth grabbing.
- Left click throws the object in your hands.
On a tablet or phone the same actions sit on the screen: a virtual joystick on the left for moving, a look zone on the right, and buttons for jumping, crouching, grabbing and throwing. Touch works fine, but the mouse and keyboard feel sharper when you are timing a dash past the guy’s field of view.
