Cowboy Safari is a free browser adventure game about a cowboy who ropes wild animals while running across open country. You aim the lasso mid-sprint, land on the back of a zebra or a buffalo, and calm it down until it joins your zoo. It plays in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone with no download.
Running, Roping and Riding
The cowboy never stops moving on his own. He trots across savannahs, jungles and rougher wild zones while rocks, cliffs and aggressive animals fill the path. The lasso swings ahead of him, and the trick is to release it right when a target steps into a safe landing range. When a wild animal glows yellow, that is the cue that a jump will connect. Hit the window and the cowboy lands on its back. Miss it and the run ends there.
Riding is where the animal calms down and slowly turns into a zoo resident. Not every animal is cooperative, though. An angry one can toss the rider off, a crash stops everything, and a failed landing costs the whole run. Long distances come from chaining jumps, hopping from one animal to the next as soon as the previous one starts to slow.
Coins, the Sky Zoo and Stronger Animals
Every rescued animal and every coin ends up in the floating Sky Zoo. Each resident gets a habitat, and upgrading that habitat raises the value of the zoo’s visitors. Better habitats unlock stronger animals, fresh maps and boss missions, and the coins you collect also buy patience upgrades. Patience is quieter than it sounds, because a calm animal holds its position longer and hands you a bigger window for the next jump.
The game is a light HTML5 build, so it loads quickly on just about any connection. Its one public rating is a 10, which is a thin sample but a good sign all the same.
A Cast With Its Own Habits
The roster is not a pile of clones. Pebbles the Zebra is quick but fights the controls at top speed. Camenbert the Bison is slow, heavy and hard to knock over. Max the Water Buffalo is the calm one with smooth handling, and Major Aria the Cape Buffalo shrugs off heavy impacts. Austin the Ostrich runs like a rocket and gets angry just as fast. James the Bosstrich jumps in unpredictable directions. Dr Dali the African Elephant flattens trees on the way, and Dr Baldwin the Mammoth is enormous, slow and almost unstoppable in a collision.
Controls for Jumping and Steering
Everything in a run comes down to two actions.
- Spacebar or left click to jump and throw the lasso at once.
- Arrow keys to steer the animal while riding.
The game runs on desktop, tablet and mobile browsers, and a keyboard gives the cleanest jump control while you learn the timing.
