Monster Squad Rush

Monster Squad Rush is a free browser runner from TapNation. You steer a squad of monsters down a bright track, pick up new creatures as you go and evolve them into stronger champions. It is a single player HTML5 and Unity WebGL game, so it starts inside the browser with no download, no install and no account.

What You Do in a Run

Your creatures handle the sprinting. You handle the steering, and that is where the small decisions live: cut across the track to grab another monster, keep the pack together, and stay clear when the course gets crowded. Each pickup makes the squad a little more ridiculous and a little more useful. The idea is readable in a couple of seconds, which is a big part of why it fits a browser tab so well.

There is an arena side to it too. The squad you build is meant to battle for supremacy, not just run pretty laps, so the monsters you gather and evolve end up doing some fighting along the way.

Collecting Monsters and Evolving Them

Collecting is the hook. Monsters join the squad as you pass them, one at a time, and the ones that join can evolve into champions. Turning a scrappy starter group into a champion squad takes a while, and that gives every run a reason beyond a high score.

It carries a 9.1 rating from 11 votes at the moment. That is a tiny sample, so treat the number as a hint rather than a verdict. TapNation is a studio that leans on quick, pick up and play games, and this one follows the same pattern.

Mouse Controls for Desktop and Touch

There are no keys to learn here. The official control line is two words, mouse controls, and that is the whole scheme.

  • Mouse: move the pointer to steer the squad left and right along the track.
  • Left click: menus and prompts take a normal click, including the one that starts a run.
  • Touch: on a tablet or phone, drag a finger instead, because the game runs in mobile browsers as well.

Desktop, tablet and phone all work without an app, and the absence of keyboard input means a trackpad is fine too. That makes it an easy one to open when you have a few minutes going spare.
