8 Ball Pool

8 Ball Pool: quick look

The green felt fills the screen, glossy balls scattered like a tiny chaotic planetarium, and a thin cue waiting at the edge. You click the cue, drag back to set power, aim with the mouse, and let go. Simple. It feels oddly tactile, like tapping a marble, but also a little stingy when luck screws you over.

You basically line up shots, manage power and spin, and sometimes play safe to frustrate the other player. Controls are natural, click and drag to aim, release to shoot, tweak spin with the mouse or arrow keys if you want, and hit space to reset or nudge the power meter. I prefer this over Virtual Pool and Billiards City for quick matches, though Carrom Pool and Pool Live Pro scratch a different itch.

Gameplay swings between chill and tense. Matches can be five minutes of zen or ten minutes of death by scratch. My bias, I like smart safety shots more than flashy caroms. Casual advice, don’t always go for the corner bank early, practice English, and watch the cue ball. If you miss, blame the lag a little, then practice the tricky angles like you would in Snooker, and try to enjoy fouls that turn into lucky wins.
